Rhino crashing when trying to render

Hi folks I need help trying to get the Intel denoiser to work. Rhino is crashing on me, started right after the update to 7.33 tonight. All was well prior to this, basically other than not being able to get the Nvidia denoiser to work. So I installed the Intel denoiser, then noticed Rhino wanted to update so I let it. Then the crashes started. I uninstalled the Intel denoiser and the crashes have stopped. Any ideas how to get this running or lost cause?

(yes this machine is very old, and is being relegated to backup status soon after new machine is built)

Hi Robert -

I’m not seeing any crash report from you that is related to this crash. Is the reporter popping up? If so, please always send in those reports.
Apart from that, does this also crash on your machine when you run the Rhino 8 BETA?
-wim

weird. i sent in 3 of them.
haven’t tried the denoiser in v8 yet, will soon.

Hi Robert -

I’m seeing 3 reports from you. One from Aug 29 crashing RhinoCFD, one from Sept 16 which also might be RhinoCFD related, and the last one from a few hours ago, but that’s on Rhino 8.
-wim

OH it’s possible I wasn’t online at the time? Do the reports live in a queue somewhere or disintegrate if not sent immediately?

v8 doesn’t crash like 7 did, but it also won’t render with the denoiser installed, although raytrace preview seems to work.

Hi Robert -

In that case, the problem is fixed.

That could be something that needs fixing, but I’m not sure what, exactly, you are reporting here. This is what I’m reading: When you install the plug-in, the Render command no longer does anything at all. Is that correct?
-wim

Hi @carvecream ,

I’d try updating the driver for your Nvidia card from Nvidia’s driver download site and then see if the Nvidia denoiser plugin works for you in Rhino 7.

hi Brian, I’ve got this driver at the latest it can go due to the card’s age. So if that is the issue then I’ll consider this an issue with my machine not the plugin/rhino.

small video showing exactly what’s going on.
click render and I get a black screen in the render window.
click on the intel denoiser and render screen goes blank.

Based on the error message shown in the orange hud of Raytraced it looks like there isn’t a pre-compiled kernel for your card, and that the driver you have isn’t capable of automatically compiling one from the PTX files that we distribute.

I need to chat with @DavidEranen to see what we can do here. At least our current NVidia CUDA compiler no longer supports Kepler-based cards, which is what your Quadro K3000M is.

You’ll have to switch to CPU for now.

No promises that we can continue supporting this, but I’ll definitely have a look.
