Rhino crashing instantly when opened

Ive restarted my computer multiple times. Even downloaded a new version of rhino8.
It seemed to happen after I tried to import STL and OBJ files from a 3d scan which failed.

The start of the crash report is below. Shall I paste the whole thing here?

Thanks

Mac M1

Tahoe Version 26.0.1 (25A362)

Yes, this first part doesn’t show the interesting bits that tell where in the code the crash happened.

Hi Phil -
Does the Rhino crash reporter dialog pop up when Rhino crashes? If so, please always send in that report.

The current version of Rhino is 8.28.
Could you please make sure that 8.28 is crashing?
-wim

FWIW it looks like the crash happens inside a third-party plug-in that has its code obfuscated.

Hi Wim,

Yes version 8.28 is also crashing. Attached is the report.

Thanks

It does look like Rhino is crashing while attempting to load a plug-in that does not ship with Rhino. Unfortunately our crash report isn’t giving details on exactly which plug-in it is.

Do you recall installing any extra plug-ins for Rhino?

Thanks for looking into it Steve.

Yes I have a couple of plugins. Ive gone into ~/Library/Application Support/McNeel/Rhinoceros/PlugIns/ and deleted all plugins, restarted the computer and it’s still crashing on startup.

Any other suggestions? Would I have plugins living in some other folder?

I suggest re-posting the crash report for the case of no plugins.

Can anyone out there help?

It still looks like a plug-in is being loaded that doesn’t ship with Rhino. I need to dig around and find the other locations where these could be getting loaded from.

Thanks Steve! Im lost without my Rhino

With Rhino closed, try renaming
~/Library/Application Support/McNeel
to
~/Library/Application Support/McNeel_Backup

Start Rhino and see if that makes a difference

That’s not made a difference unfortunately.

Darn; you could try deleting the Rhino 8 plist to see if that helps
~/Library/Preferences/com.mcneel.rhinoceros.8.plist

hmmm, I don’t even have that file. 7.plist & 9.plist are there, but no 8.

Can you start your Rhino at all? If so, go to PlugInManager and see if there are any 3rd party plug-ins listed

No… it crashes instantly, no chance of getting to the PlugInManager. I tried to delete all my plugins held here :/Library/Application Support/McNeel/Rhinoceros/PlugIns/. but not all of them showed, there are more hiding somewhere in my machine…

I’m going to need to ask @dan if he has any magic tricks to try, but I know he’s out for a couple days.
