Rhino 8 very strange crash (REPORT THIS TO BRIAN)

Hi guys, I have a big problem with Rhino, specifically when I use some plugins or when I use grasshopper (sometimes even when just very normal fittings)

The system seems not to be able to carry out these activities, it becomes heavy and crashes, often even blue screen.

The problem is that once it crashes and if I close it I can no longer open Rhinoceros normally, I have to start it 3/4 times before it doesn’t crash anymore.

However, if I restart the computer it starts fine.

A notice that was compared yesterday was this…

I also attach my _systeminfo:

Thanks, logged as RH-82373 Error in italian localization string

Hi Alessio,

This is a weird one, the error dialog is contradictory. You can see from the English and Italian strings that they each have a %ls, %ls and %g. Yet there is an extra % in the English format report.

Can you try deleting (or renaming) the it-IT.xml file at the path that shows in the error dialog you added above. Then run “C:\ProgramData\McNeel\Rhinoceros\8.0\Packages\localization (it-it).rhi”. That should make a new it-IT.xml at that location.

Let us know if this fixes the problem please.

Tim

Hi Alessio,

Actually can you please upload your current it-IT.xml here, Rhino - Upload to Support, before you delete it?

Thanks.

Tim

Yes, of course
I’ll attach the file here, and that’s what I’ll delete and do as y
ou said Tim, I’ll update you
it-it.xml (3.8 MB)

Could this be the cause of the continuous crash? I’ve noticed that rhino has difficulty running python scripts, particularly when using Grasshopper or using plugins…

Hi Alessio,

I doubt the dialog you’re seeing has any impact on other stuff. But it could be an indication that something has gone sideways in your install. I think maybe a better idea is to uninstall Rhino and then reinstall it. Something is definitely wonky and the localization dialog may be the canary in the coal mine.

Please let us know if that helps at all.

Tim

Sorry Tim, but the problem persists, rhino is very unstable, it keeps crashing with operations like FilletEdge or FlowalongSrf, very strange

I have tried reinstalling several times but nothing changes, otherwise it will be necessary to format the PC

Are you sending in crash reports when the crashes occur? If you’re sending crash reports I can look at the contents and sometimes determine why the crash is occurring.

Does the language dialog still open when you start Rhino?

I was able to find 2 crash reports from May 21, both in the FlowAlongSrf command. I’m running them through the debugger now.

I looked at those 2 crashes in the debugger and where it’s crashing I would expect many users to be giving us an earful and they’re not. Have you tried any sort of app that stresses your hardware to see if you may have something amiss? Like maybe a bad DIMM.

Hi Tim, I just started Rhino for the first time today and it crashed for no reason, I submitted the crash report and you should find it with my email alessocacciatore11@gmail.com

I noticed that it crashes especially when the plugins are loaded, I also tried to launch the python editor and immediately blue screen, any ideas?

@Alessio_Cacciatore

I could only find crashes where the start of the email address is alessio. The crash starts with the plug-in that is moveup.rhp.

Rename the file to say moveup.rhp.bak and see if starting Rhino works better now. The file is located at C:\Users\chetta\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\packages\8.0\moveup\2.9.2\moveup.rhp.

If crash happens still during startup do the same for bullant.rhp.

@eirannejad the moveup.rhp plug-in does something in IronPython, the crash happens there.

Update

With 14900k processors the problem is in the bios, I updated them and now everything is more stable, for now

Thank to all,
Very kind
