Rhino 9 WIP icon colors themes?

Please for the love of my poor eyes can we at least get the option to easily change the icon colors like themes or something?

i can accept the light blue at minimum but the light green is difficult, its confusing and not pleasing to look at

@bobmcneel please i beg you :folded_hands:

What is the most suitable color?

Don’t use green icons. Period.

Dark green middle

Anything really aslong as it’s not white and light green combo

It blends in for me and confuses the icon memory and not very pleasant to look at for long

I’ve given it a shot many times now i just can’t accept it

The voice of reason! :sob:

Indeed, this color is very bad and uncomfortable for the eyes in both dark and normal modes. Maybe another color would be better than lime green.:green_circle:

Or just give us user the capabilities to change it if this is the image they are going for

I will go the extra miles with my bare elbows if I have to

To the UI developer;

Actually, an interface without colors works very well.

ACTUAL

EXAMPLE I

EXAMPL II

there was a not so old topic in which people complained about it already and yes i totally agree, all these colours shouting around is not making Rhino a faster tool to work with, the UI is glowing like a trillion fireflies now.

once upon a time there was a neat tendency to modernise and calm down the UI as shown below in the screenshot (Rhino 7 for Mac) the panel icons on the right are monochromatic with the active one being highlighted not fully ideal as the icons were not very communicative but still better than now in regards of colours at least. and thanks to the major overhaul to make Windows and Mac version look more alike it was for some incomprehensible reason decided to toss the entire idea to minimise the obtrusive UI over board and make Rhino for Windows the sole UI donor instead with a tendency that now goes the opposite direction making it look like a wild market place that tries to sell all at once.

v9 vs v7

also v7 vs v9

There’s already a long running topic here:

Edit: This was the earlier one:

This version is almost getting released and I just want to make my voice heard until then

I really like Rhino and i want to make it better not just for me but for all

I urge everyone to speak out whether it is there or new topics it does not matter at this point

I have given them a fair shot of testing it and this is my conclusion, if it falls on deaf ears then so be it but at least give us the easy options to customize it

Which gives me the idea when typing this why not have “legacy rhino” theme option for the old icons and it would make everyone happy?

Requested many times. The developers once mentioned that this is possible, then no word about that anymore…

Here is what I think will suit everyone’s taste:

Rhino 9 UI cheme options to include 3 icon styles:
A. Classic V7 (thin outlines, white accents);
B. Classic V8 (thick outlines, gray accents);
C. Modern V9 (washed-out pastel colours, experimenting with lime green, add eye strain to colour-blind people just for fun).

We’re still far from release. There will be a way to change icon colors eventually, but it is not the highest priority at this point in the WIP phase.

There is about 3 years between ver 7 and 8

Ver 8 released in late 2023 if it’s consistent we should see a release late 2026 or 2027

More than half way there and time flies fast

Gijs the GOAT delivers good news!

Then i have no further opinions on this subject.

the context menu as i posted above to check uncheck panels was much simpler and more readable in v7 for mac, the current checklist is extremely convoluted, neither the checkbox itself nor the icons are needed.

now we have text only for the panels on the side and when we select vertical it kind of becomes a bit more cleaned up that is one thing i actually like about the newer versions. if that could be paired with the checklist from v7 it would be a visual simpler and stronger match.

make it less fancy but more functional.

I can’t stand vertical text. I would rather have proper icons at the cost of a few extra pixels along the width.

It’s fantastic to see what can be done with post-processing effects. Here’s my UI, which includes a lot of Glow, that I created during the pandemic (DAD: Xfoil interface).

The last image you posted

One way I see what you mean a list view is nice not to much clutter just easy and simple however for the experienced user

The icons and text i find it more welcoming and for not so experienced user there are times you don’t remember the name but remember how the icon looks like

I think a fix for this is to have a setting that shows in list view or icons and text maybe like a filter option

No more county faire style glo-in-the-dark clown panels? Mercilessly killing that sweet rubber duck? Say it ain’t so!
