Rhino 8 - sun shadow issue when there is a transparent material

R8 SR22

I’m experiencing an issue with sun shadows when using transparent materials and exporting the viewport with “Capture Viewport to File.”

When viewing the elements in Rendered Display Mode directly on the screen, the sun shadows appear correctly. However, when I export the image using Capture Viewport to File, the sun shadows is affected by the amount of transparency.

I’ve noticed that the transparency percentage of the material affects the visibility of the sun shadows. If the material is set to 100% transparency, no sun shadows are visible in the exported image. The lower the transparency percentage, the darker and more visible the sun shadows become.

How can I solve this and make the sun shadow not to be affected by transparent materials?

Follow below some images to illustrate the issue.

Does anyone from have a clue about that? I can´t save images that has 100% transparent materials because the sun shadow is not displayed at all….not only for the transparent material, but for all elements. It makes no sense for me the need to reduce the % of transparency to get sun shadows appearing.

I think this is a bug in Rhino 8. It does not happen in my Rhino 7.

I appreciate the help.

@nathanletwory do you have any thoughts about this issue?

Sounds a lot like Shadow Rendering Differences in Rhino 8 Ground Plane - #10 by RasmusWollerStoumann - according reports that is fixed in Rhino 8.24, you could try updating to that and see for yourself. But I don’t have any further info on that myself.

Hi. Nathan.
It looks like it works good in the SR24.
Thanks ! ! !
