Rhino 8 lags after selecting

Hi all,
I noticed with Rhino 8 a very annoying, frustrating issue that ultimately causes lower productivity. I don’t know if this is particular to my system, but I can’t find anything wrong that would justify it:

  • A great number of times, let’s say well over 50%, when clicking to select an object of any kind, the program lags 1~2 seconds before allowing to do anything else, including view manipulation (rotate, pan, zoom).
  • Selecting one object may generate the lag now, but selecting it later on may not generate the lag.

Needless to say, when you are modeling stuff you end up making hundreds or thousands of selections… it adds up.
I have tried a number of options and configurations in Rhino and in my system to identify the root cause, to no avail. I hope someone can assist.

Hi aristocompasso,

Can we try to repeat with your file? Upload large zip files privately here, please put a link to this thread as well. Thanks!

Thanks for reporting RH-85982 Aristocompasso, i was able to repeat (although not as consistently as your video)

Thanks Japhy,

I can confirm that is has to do with the panels/tabs enabled/visible.
Please note that it’s not only the viewport navigation that is halted. Any operation seems to be halted until the panels are loaded/refreshed.
The lagging occurs when the “Properties” panel is visible and gets worse when the “Box Edit” panel is also showing.

RH-85982 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 18 Release Candidate
