Rhino 8 crashing on paper space

Hi,
recently purchased the upgrade to Rhino 8 and been having consistent crashes when I clipping plane my model or when I go to a preexisting layout in paper space. The windows spinny icon comes up on my mouse then the entire machine freezes and I have to manually power down.

Ive worked in the same file on Rhino 7 without any issues for over am onth now. I’ve tried both nvidia studio and gaming drivers if that matters. Usuyally if Rhino 7 crashes my computer will not freeze ewntirely and I can send a crash report but not in my case here.

I am wondering if this is an isssue anyone else has experienced and if there are any things I can try to fix this issue. thanks

Hi Nelson,

Can you run the SystemInfo command in the Rhino command line and post the results?

Was there an opportunity to send in a crash report? I’m not seeing any with your email address?

Hi Japhy,
here is the systeminfo below.
Unfortunately there wasn’t any, my entire system would freeze.
I was talking to some colleagues on 8 and there seems to be a similar issue when running a clippingplane, entire system hangs.
thanks

Thanks, lets disable this plugin for testing purposes.

Go to File>Properties>Plugins and sort or search for the 3rd party plugin and disable, then restart Rhino.

If we narrow it down to the plugin and its not ready for Rhino 8 you can try switching the .Net version.

okay sO I tried a few things out, i disabled the plugin and it would still crash doing the same things so I tttried varioous settings,s and upon disabling the GPU tesselation, it works now, with and without the plugin disabled. If I enable the tessellation with the plugin off, it crashed. Plug in on and tessellation off, no crash. Same without the plugin.

then I noticed when I disable tesselation, when I click objects, groups, block, the yellow selected highlight does not appear, only the gumball… This only happens when the clipping plane is enabled in my view.
Trying this out in Rhino 7, my default is tessellatiton “on”.

this is the problem I am having no with tesselation off: Clipping plane hides isocurves and edges - #5 by stevebaer

The gpu tessellation is points us towards your video config/driver. Please go to graphics settings in Windows and ensure your Rhino is using the NVidia card and not in a power saving config and falling back to the 1gb AMD.

A clean install of the NVidia driver would be the next step. When installing the driver choose custom and then check the Clean Install option.

Hi Japhy, thanks for the response. I tried making these changes, reinstalling the drivers and checking the grpahic settings in windows and it still crashes when I enable tesselation. It seems to be working without tesselation on, I can run he clipping planes and view my paper space without it crashing once it is turned off.
