RHINO 8 crashing after start window

Hello,

Since two weeks for me and one week for a colleague rhino 8 is starting we can see the window to choose a drawing but Rhino is closing this window shut down.

I’ve reinstalled the version but the same phenomenon reoccured.

Has somone an idea how to resolve the problem?

Hi Wolf, Please run the systeminfo command in rhino and post the results. thanks!

I can get only to the start window afterwards Rhino is closing the window. That means I can not get the system infos.

The installed version is rhino_fr-fr_8.25.25328.11001 on a windows 11 system

Try opening Rhino in Safe Mode (available via Windows Start)

You mean start windows in safe mode?

How can I start rhino in safe mode?

Hi Wolf -

Hit the Windows key on the keyboard and type “Safe”. Rhino in safe mode should show up as one of the options.
-wim

This was working Wim!

@Japhy The systeminfo below gives an explication?

Rhino plugins that do not ship with Rhino

Rhino plugins that ship with Rhino
C:\Program Files\Rhino 8\Plug-ins\Commands.rhp “Commands” 8.25.25328.11001
C:\Program Files\Rhino 8\Plug-ins\rdk.rhp “Renderer Development Kit”
C:\Program Files\Rhino 8\Plug-ins\rdk_etoui.rhp “RDK_EtoUI” 8.25.25328.11001
C:\Program Files\Rhino 8\Plug-ins\Toolbars\Toolbars.rhp “Toolbars” 8.25.25328.11001

everything looks OK.

Safe mode runs without the video drivers and plugins.

The video driver isn’t old but would a good idea to check for an update and do a clean driver install (available in the installer in the custom mode)

a couple of things to try:

Repair your microsoft redistributables.

the repair option can be found here..

  1. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  2. Right-click Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and choose Repair.Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x86)
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64)
  3. Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime 8.x
  4. Repair Rhino

Thank you @Japhy It’s working… for the moment :slight_smile:

Thanks for reporting back. My guess is a windows update messed up the redistributes, that has been happening more often in the last few updates in a relatively small subset of users.
