Rhino 6 Fails to load material when reopening

I’ve recently migrated onto a new laptop (processer is AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics).

Since then, everytime I open up a 3D file, it doesn’t load the material textures from earlier sessions (using Rhino Render). The material file paths are correct. And yet I then have to change the material, creating a new material with the same texture, in order to reload the material.

Save file then reopen and it happens again. Quite laborious and time wasting.

Help welcome, and apologies if this is posted elsewhere.

Thanks

Hi Jonathan -
Can you please provide the output of the Rhino SystemInfo command and a simple 3dm file that behaves like this on your system?
-wim

Hi Wim -
Please find files attached. Many thanks

3d_System_info.txt (2.1 KB)
proposed_shed.3dm (7.8 MB)

just tested your file on my Mac, seems to open fine with materials still applied to objects :man_shrugging:

Darn it. Thanks for testing Milezee.

Any idea what may be causing this issue on a PC laptop?

Interesting test result. When rendering using Rhino render, the image produces mapped materials. The model rendered view then updates and applies one of the material texture to ALL materials (in this case the silver roofing material).

Next step, I hit save. And all materials update (image below). Bizarre?

I’ve reproduced the same result on 2 separate complex 3D files and have had the same result - Open file, all materials missing, press save, materials reload.

So in effect the issue is resolved. However it would be good to know what may be causing this?

Hi Jonathan - One thing I notice is that your radeon drivers are a bit old - I would update these from the AMD website and see if that makes any difference.

  Vendor Name: ATI Technologies Inc.
  Render version: 4.6
  Shading Language: 4.60
  Driver Date: 10-27-2020

-Pascal

Thanks for pointing that out Pascal,

I’ve since updated the drivers and the opening problem still persists. Saving immediately continues to work though.
