I have this problem that Rhino6 just crashes (consistently) when I make 2d. The files where it crashes WORK in Rhino5. And when I sent it to a friend he could also make 2d it. I get NO crash report, it just crashes. It’s not a specific file or pattern. It also crashes when I try to make 2d REALLY SMALL parts of the file (like one building).
I tought it might be the RAM since I also get no crash report because it maybe has no RAM. My friends PC has 12 GB RAM and is like 8 years old and mine is like 5 years old with 16 gb RAM and overall better specs.
Could it be that my rhino6 has a problem? Really lost here! Also it ALL WORKS in rhino5 on the same machine when I make2d.
I’ve added the file. It crahes even if I just try to make 2d ONE of the buildings (like hilighted). Almost ALL of the buildings make it crash. But also other files crash where I just used simple “boxes” to make the model.
I use maxwell for rhino as plugin. That is the only difference to my friends, otherwise my machine is better and we use the same file and rhino6 versions and are all on the newest windows.
[edit: the file didn’t upload currently trying to make that work]
Yes, you can’t upload a 100+ Mb file here. The download from the site is pretty slow. Zipping Rhino files often makes them much smaller.
That being said, while I’m waiting for it to download, your video driver is around 2 years old, I would update that in any case. Not sure if it affects Make2D, but it can’t hurt.
It doesn’t crash here - takes about 27 seconds to generate 4 views. You have a lot of individual surfaces in there, you should join them to get a better Make2D result. But the file is still kind of a mess…
The 3d models of the buildings I have from the “official website” of the muncipality for 3d buildingmodels, they are not made by me. I only made the land.
But still should be able to generate the make2d.
That all said it’s not a problem of this file. It’s a problem of many files and only of rhino6 and not 5 on my PC. thanks for the help so far^^
I’m having trouble following this thread. @info
Please post a SMALL example file that causes Make2D to crash.
If I can reproduce the crash, I file a bug report and get it to the developer.
Without that, there is no actionable item.
My guess is since these are imported objects, they are screwed up or bad in some way, and will need to be cleaned up before they will work.
Of particular interest to me is the comment that they work in V5 and not in V6.
Make2D was rewritten for V6 so this may be a regression.
That was my general recommendation since his are from 2018, but I also said I was not sure that had any relation to the problem. In the same post I noted that it did not crash my system.
For anybody encountering the same problem again how it went down:
PROBLEM: If I try to make 2d even simple small objects my rhino crashed. It didn’t even START the make2d it just shut down.
Thinking it was a RAM problem maybe as I don’t even get the Crashreport window I asked my friend if he could try to make2d the file. HE COULD EASILY
So i asked him to send me his systeminfo and compared it to mine. I updated the driver like asked here, but that was useless, my friend also has the 2 year old driver and overall worse speccs.
The DIFFERENCE my friend and I have was only one (if you don’t count the speccs): He uses VRAY PLUGIN and I use the MAXWELL PLUGIN.
After deleting maxwell from my computer I can now make 2d also the big file without any problems.
This of course brings the problem now that I need to figure out how to use rhino with maxwell together.
Maybe something that helps developers:
when I JOINED the surfaces make 2d STARTED but it crashed around 50% (at least it started which was a difference). It did work for the very small objects. No clue as to why that made the difference, you’ll figure it out
I used maxwell to display the rendered mode not built in rhino things.
I can’t really recreate it now, but it might have been possible that in my template I used maxwell materials to create the 3d model, maybe that causes the crash?
