Rhino 6 Beta Latest Update Crashing

I just installed the new update for Rhino V6 Beta. I was doing a Make 2D command for the second time in 5 minutes and the file crashed. There were a lot of Block Instances in the group I was making 2D from. Rhino crashed with no warning from windows. I reopened the file and did the same thing. Same result.

About the file: Import of a Sketch Up 2008 file.

History: The file I was working with is virtually a duplicate of a file that I was working with about a month ago doing exactly the same thing with. Making 2D from model parts to create drawings. I was using the previous verion of the V6 Beta. No problem with the Make 2D but there is an issue with a significant lag when moving vectors around after the Make 2D process. This is not something I have encountered with V5.

I have tried to reinstall the previous version of the Beta but i"m told that it has expired.

Hello - can you please export the objects for Make2d to a new file, and if you have the same problem in that file, zip it up and upload to

www.rhino3d.com/upload to my (Pascal) attention.

thanks,

-Pascal

Unfortunately I can’t. It’s part of a project for a film and I can’t release the file.

I have reinstalled the latest WIP of V6. I exploded the blocks of the object which caused the crash. Was able to Make 2D with it. There were blocks within blocks. Not sure if that is what caused the crash. I checked for bad objects beforehand and there were none.

Still encountering a significant drag and time lag when performing moves and grouping of objects. 3-5 seconds even on small objects. 3 polysurfaces. Same on groups with 10’s of objects.

Hopefully someone else will have a file they can share that has similar symptoms.
If we can’t repeat the problem here in a debug build, it’s not likely we can fix it.

@Irondogart did you submit the crash report? If so, did you include your email address? I searched our crash dumps for your @gmail.com address, and didn’t find it. If you can please send the crash reports (we don’t collect model data unless you explicitly allow it) and include your email in the report, we may be able to fix the problem without the file.

Where would I find the crash data?

Also, I can send the file if a McNeel representative supervisor etc. would be willing to sign an NDA.

Would that be possible? I’d really like to be able to help sort this out by sending you the file but my hands are tied.

I’ve submitted the .dmp file. Hope it’s helpful.

Thanks for the offer, but we have a policy of not signing NDAs.

Was the .dmp file the one you needed?

I haven’t seen it arrive yet… might still be waiting for it to upload. Did you include your email address when you submitted it?

yes. irondog…

Update:

I have been able to Make 2D with no problems on other objects. Could it have been the fact that there were blocks within blocks on the objects that caused the crash?

Also, the time lag / delayed response seems to happen on everything I do with the exception of looking around.
When I say everything I mean Group, Rotate, Copy, Move.

Again, not something I have experienced with V5 doing similar operations. So, not sure it’s my machine…

Unfortunately, without the file, it’s super hard to tell. So far the crash dump hasn’t arrived here, either…

As for the delay, that’s weird, too. Do you have the Help showing in the right-hand panel? I wonder if closing it makes things faster?

No help panel showing. I received the email response that the file uploaded.

I wish I could send the file but I understand that you don’t want to deal with the NDA. It’s silly on my end because the file is really nothing much to keep secret but they take these things pretty seriously.

I was wondering if the translation from Sketch Up was an issue but I was dealing with a file that was built in Rhino 5 and was having the same problems. I have been relying on V6 because it can make 2d from meshes and blocks and it’s much faster in most instances.

The lag comes after the command is done. Like it’s processing the result but the tasks are small so I don’t understand what it’s doing.

For example: Select object. Run rotate command. Rotate. Enter. Lag.
Every time.

Can you please send me a screen shot of the Help>About window for your Rhino BETA? I’m confused about why you got an email from us about the crash, as I didn’t think our V6 crash reporting system sent emails!

Can you please send me a copy of that email in a private message?

Here is a pic of the message I received. Not sure this confirms the upload.
