The Insert key is the most useless key in the entire keyboard. The WalkAbout command is slightly more useful. It changes the right mouse button function. When the WalkAbout is off, the camera moves when we drag the right mouse button. When the WalkAbout is on, the camera rotates when we drag the right mouse button. This rotation is useful when we are inside model of a building and we want to look around. The rest of the WalkAbout command is made of useless and fictional features. I hereby propose to abolish the WalkAbout command and to replace it with new function of the Insert key. When we hold down the Insert key and we drag the right mouse button, the camera rotates.
Rightclicking on the Orbit tool will also give you access to the possibility to “rotate your head”, similar to holding both RMB and LMB at the same time. The Walkabout & Lookabout-toolsets are relevant when you need to create a multitude of Named Views with the same Eye-height and FieldOfView. In RhinoLands / LandsDesign you have a much better “Walk” / “Fly” implementation which also include the arrowkeys for basic navigation. Enscape use WASD+QE+SPACE for a full realtime navigation and introduce a fixed setting for the “spectator hight” for the eyelevel.
I’m using the Insert key as a shortcut to bake selected geometry from Grasshopper
There is also always the ScrollLock key ![]()
