Render quality not changing # of cycles

Hi there,

I’m using Rhino 7.4.21067.13001 and I think I found a bug in rendering. In Raytraced view, I set the # of cycles to cap at 1000. Now when I change the Quality settings in the Render panel, it has no effect on the # of cycles used by Render. All of my renders go to 1000 cycles, whether I am using “Low Quality”, “Final Quality”, or any quality between. In previous versions of 7, this # of cycles would change from one quality setting to another.

Final Quality

This is fixed in 7.5

This started happening with me today after I accepted to install the update. It was fine before. Now if I choose draft or fine quality it always stays the same at 1000. How can it be fixed? Do I need to reinstall the program?

If you installed 7.4 then you’ll see the problem. If all goes well and we don’t have stop ship issues the next service release goes out on April 13th-14th. The fix is already in there.

If you need it now you can change your update frequence to service release candidate at Help > Check for updates....

Thank you. I had to delete the 7.4 update and reinstall the previous 7.3 version to get render to work properly again. I will check the new release after April 14th.

@nathanletwory This problem seems to have resurfaced in Rhino 8. I’m using Rhino 8 SR5 and the number of Cycles capped in Raytraced view is also capping the number of Cycles when you hit the Render button.

You probably have set in Rhino Render Advanced Settings a couple of sections lower in the Rendering panel session sample count to 500 and that it should override the production quality setting.

Thanks! That did it. I didn’t know that there was an override option.

That option has been there since Rhino 7.
