Refit trim - trimmed to untrimmed srf

Hi community,

how to convert this trimmed surface to an untrimmed one ? I’ve tryed the “refittrim” command with bottom and upper edge but I’m still stuck with the trimmed surface.

I try to convert a trimmed surface to an untrimmed surface in order to further operate on.

I rather want to do this operation inside Grasshopper, but for now my exploration been tedious, and I’ve been wasting to much time there. And no refittrim components are available in GH…

thanks

refittrim is exposed to rhinocommon - so you can use it in a scripting component in gh:
https://developer.rhino3d.com/api/rhinocommon/rhino.geometry.brepface/refittrim

EDIT:
i think your surface and the trimming is much to complex compared to the intention of refittrim.
make sure that trimming is G2 along the desired untrimmed edge.
also the underlaying surface should not be to complex and best allow a nice extendSrf on all edges.

so with some bricolage and some deviation i get this:

main stuff i did:

  • untrimall keep trims
  • extendSrf
  • createUV curves
  • rebuild the curves in 2d
  • applyCrv
  • trim
  • refittrim

why did you start a new topic ?

Hi @Tom_P,

This is this kind of workflow I want to understand first in Rhino, and your example is very didactic. Thank you! I will try to reproduce it myself.

So as I understand this would be the “quickest” manual workaround to make a trimmed surface untrimmed ? No magical command for this, nor its intended to be implemented?

With GH the logic differs a bit and for me now is still really time consumming. I wanted to understand possible workflows first inside rhino. As I’m not coding, I mainly rely on native GH components, and Refit trim isn’t here yet, as other important features like Blendcrv command…

this topic was mainly inside GH From trimmed surface to untrimmed surface . @René_Corella , think I’ll get back to it

but yes I find this, this morning, could have added it there. RH Converting trimmed surface to untrimmed surface

for the given surface - as far as i understand - yes.
