RC2: Background flashes black in Artistic mode

I was messing around with a drawing in Artistic mode tonight, and discovered that if i select a polysurface and then rotate my view, the background either goes completely black, or flickers black intermittently.

Rhino_RC2_Black_Flash_in_Artistic_Mode.mov (14.4 MB)

Does this only happen when the Skylight is enabled in the Render Properties? Also, what graphics card is Rhino using and what OSX version are you running?

I just checked, and i get this happening with Skylight on OR off.

Thanks for the info. I’m not able to reproduce this display issue here so my thought is that it’s hardware specific. @marlin @jeff any ideas? The white viewport issue is also a problem… Viewport whiteouts

hey Brian…

try opening a new file
make two boxes
switch to artistic
click (select) one then click on the other then click on the other etc…
nothing happens

apply a material to one of the boxes (via MaterialEditor …plastic high gloss for example)
then do the selection switching.

do you see it now?
(if not, the above will repeatably trigger it for me)

Yep, I see that too… thanks for the specific steps. I filed it as http://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/MR-2088

I can see something similar here too… But I have no idea what’s happening. The way the frame buffer gets updated is somewhat different on the Mac, so it’s possible something is getting dropped in the process. @marlin might some ideas, but at the moment, I’m at a loss.

Note: I’m on a MBP 13" retina display.

When I go into Artistic mode, the background goes black immediately.
When I click a box, then the background goes ti the Artistic image.
If I change the object property to be material by object, the background goes black again but the material panel shows correctly.
I dragged a low gloss plastic into the Model Materials, changed it to black, then dragged it onto the two boxes.
Now as I alternately select the boxes, the background goes black sometimes and corrects itself others, without an obvious pattern.

I’m running Marlin’s old MBP with Yosemite and a GeForce GT 330M with 512MB Vram
