Since we upgraded to Rhino 8 my custom display modes often have a different name when opening Rhino.
I constantly need to rename them. Most of the times the names change to ‘Shaded’. This morning on opening Rhino I had 2 custom display modes named ‘Shaded’ that I needed to rename.
Another thing that occurs is that the names sometimes change to names I used previously. Last summer I tweaked and renamed the display modes we use within the company. I think it’s noteworthy to add that during the tweaking some new display modes were introduced that are based on display modes that came from the VisualARQ plugin.
It seems all very random, but it is quite annoying. Perhaps someone has experienced this and there is a solution to prevent the constant changing of the names.
I’ve encountered this myself numerous times in Rhino 6, and 7, but not in Rhino 8 so far.
Yes. We haven’t been able to reproduce this, and as long as that is the case, this is not something that can be fixed. If you find out in which conditions those display modes are renamed, please let us know!

I think I’m starting to see a pattern in which specific display modes keep changing. One is a simple variation on the standard Wireframe mode in which the curve thickness is 2.0 instead of 1.0.
I don’t know if that means that only that value is changed or if the name of the display mode is changed.
Apart from that, are you seeing a pattern in when the names are modified (more so than which settings get modified)?

I need to clarify: the thickness-value is the only change I made in this display mode compared to the standard Wireframe display mode. I named this specific display mode RAA - Wireframe 4K.
The settings of my custom display modes do not change, only the names.
The pattern is that I saw was that this specific display mode sometimes changes to the name “Shaded” on startup. If this happens I have 2 display modes named “Shaded” in my menu. I also can’t activate that mode, because it activates the standard shaded view. If I rename the mode back to RAA - Wireframe 4K I can use it again and the model is displayed as intended.
