Rail / Leitkurve / Geländer wording

Rhino runs in German.
@Joachim_Kuntz perhaps?

_Sweep1 and similar commands asks for a rail.
In German Leitkurve.
Fine.

_FilletSrfToRail is different.
From the command name (…Rail) I’d expect rail, and in German Leitkurve.

In the menu is “Flächen zu Leitkurve verrunden”.

When I type the command then FlächeZuGeländerVerrunden.

This is what us Germans know as a Geländer

The dialog title is FlächeZuGeländerVerrunden.
_Sweep1 is more refined, it repeats the menu caption:

That is actually funny—‘Geländer’ is wrong here; it’s an architectural term (hand rail/railing/banister).

I’m assuming some of this stuff is now translated by AI. It’s funny how an AI can translate the same word or idea differently - even within the same paragraph. Sounds like it got confused between rail and railing. Remember AI (LLM) doesn’t actually know anything - it’s just looking for the most probable next letter/word/pixel whatever…

Thanks for pointing this out. Putting it on top of my priority list.

Just fixed this in my data base and uploaded the strings to GitHub. In the next build available it should be FlächeZuLeitkurveVerrunden throughout.

It’s not the strings only.
I think the dialog title is also at least not consistent when compared to other dialogs.

Perhaps @Gijs ?

the title is one of the strings

Looks like it’s all fixed now.

Yes, they are strings.
But which one to use for the dialog caption?

Examples:

The yellow ones seem to simply repeat the command name (i.e. SubDSweep2), doesn’t look well.
The green ones are different, perhaps they are dedicated strings or the same text as in the menu.
The red ones are extended by Options, which I don’t think is necessary.

It could look better when all dialogs used the same rules.
People do notice it, it’s not just me.

Yes I know there are a lot of other things to do.
IMO the visual impression, what you call cosmetics, is no less important.

Great!

I totally agree, and thanks for pointing those out. There is a lot of consistency related work to do, in Panels, Commands and Dialogs.

Even before AI automatic translation was problematic.
I remember a translated typo: Count is grater than 0 = Menge ist Reibe als 0.
In any case a human has to review the results

Glad to hear it!
I hope we see advantage before V9 release.

There the problem is in the English, it has been translated literally (more or less correctly) into German. Grater=Reibe Greater than=Mehr als (other translations possible)

AI has been at work in online translators long before there was a human interface for it as in ChatGPT.

I’ve created RH-89329 Consistent naming for dialogs

RH-89329 is fixed in Rhino WIP
