R8, bad visuals

I’ve just installed R8, wondering how to fix this odd graphics behaviour.
edges get a white border, very jaggy.
The images show the same file/same options, in 7 and 8… kind of unusable currently…
any ideas?

‘render mesh’ settings?

the render meshes are the same in 7 and 8. 8 seems to add a thin white line around every edge, and it doesn’t seem to have any antialiasing on the lines, so I get a jagged white/colour/white line for every edge…

Ok, so reading through a bunch of older posts, this graphics issue in 8 seems to have been known for a long time. Will stick to 7 and hope 8 becomes useable with a patch at some point…
Thanks for the existing license discount though.

I’ve been noticing this too, but I guess I didn’t zero in on it yet. I’m glad you pointed it out. It’s most likely a bug, similar to the ‘grid bugs’ I’ve been seeing.

Any links? :beers:

Hi Natalie -

Thanks, I’ve added a comment to RH-78906 Ghosted mode AA is off when not using the default background color

“Ghosted mode AA is off when not using the default background color”

It would be cool if that were the case. Unfortunately, the background makes no difference. The only thing I’ve found that helps is if the objects are on a black layer colour. The problem is still there, its just less noticeable.
It doesn’t bother me all that much cause I’d buy 8 regardless so, it can just sit there waiting for a fix but, I’m surprised this is a released version.
It might be worth extending the upgrade discount date, until you have a version that’s at least as functional as 7. “Ghosted” is probably the mode I work in the most.

Hi -

Which is why I wrote

With all options set to factory-defaults […]

in my comment in the YT report.

I had a similar problem and it might be the same for you. Anti-Aliasing (edge softening) is set as x2 in default settings. Go to File>Properties>Rhino Options>Advanced>search “Rhino.Options.OpenGL.AntialiasMode”, and then set it to something higher, like 5. Initially I tried x8, but then I started having bugs with gumball dissapearing when I hover on it, and the bug persists with Anti-Alias values x6 or higher.

You’re right, that’s an improvement, thank you for that. Less bad is still bad though lol.
7 works fine though, I’ll keep using that. I’m sure they’ll get 8 working soon.

hi @maje90 thanks, I added those to the YT. I think it is still one and the same issue, the title of that YT is not spot on.
