Piloted Sentinel Robot

Loving Rhino 8 and having a lot of fun. I modeled this as a fun exercise and thought I’d share it here…Downloaded some textures from the web and they add a dimension of realism that’s quite impressive. Hope folks enjoy.

Interesting design, senior

Why did you choose its body rusty? Did you mean, it was an old robot?

Yeah, I wanted it to look old and battle worn. Operating in a harsh environment like a desert where sand and erosion corrode and create a petina on the surface of the Robot Walker…I hope you like it!

Your rusty corroded metal inspired me to get this, sadly not in Rhino…

I wish this level of texture and material roughness was as achievable in Rhino. Probably is but I need to brush up on my Rhino Render Fu!

I love this…fantastic…did you model this…it’s incredible…love it!

I wish! I merely used the rendered image from your Rhino model in a generative image tool that writes a text prompt description from your image. Then I use that text to image to produce the results I posted. Here are a couple more and I just wanted to show the texturing that it derived from your material texture. Can you imagine how much complex 3d modeling it would take to get this sort of result while still in the concept studies? Once the geometry has been considered I will then start the Rhino3d modeling and work back and forth developing the full geometry alongside the continued scene and environment and lighting using my newer tools. I used to spend so much time on scene, materials, textures and environment in Rhino that the time I save doing the ‘eye candy’ I can devote that time and effort to the geometry in Rhino.

Joseph, these are fantastic. I use Midjourney a lot and other AI tools…the animation of the Robot was done in LUMA. I so enjoy getting responses from the Rhino Community and also, so many great people here with a depth of knowledge and so willing to share that knowledge.

Great work…here’s one I just did using text to image and then image to animation.

Excellent use of those tools! Now let me ask you this? Could you model that motorcycle in Rhino3D? That is the real challenge and how I hope I can improve my Rhino skills though use of these newer tools that are more pure imagination driven. I suspected you animation was through the use of a image to video AI as you reveal. Imagine how much time it would take to rig a Rhino3D model and create that sort of animation of the crab robot shuffling along! I got to playing around with your crab robot tonight and then I must have conjured up an old post from Thomas An a AI Rhinosaur. Midjourney just stunned me with its interpretation and it got me to thinking of using my current favorite image to video Hailuo to put some motion and articulation to this very robotic Rhino.

I have one of your crab inspired images cooking in Hailuo right now and it must be busy tonight as it is rendering slow but I will post when it is done. The speed of Midjourney stills has spoiled me…

Hi Joseph, basically that’s what I did with the walking robot. I did a thumbnail sketch and then took it into VISCOM to create a rendering…then, using the rendering as a loose underlay, modeled the walking robot in Rhino 8. (see attached progression image). I had a lot of fun doing it, and learned a lot in the process…I love the Rhino…modeling it would take time, but with the SubD capabilities in R8, it is definitely doable. To rig it and animate ith would definitely be a challenge however…

Here is my image to video using Hailuo of one of my robot crab permutations I promised. I expected the software to animate the crab but I failed to input any specific directions for that sort of motion. I’ll try again as I am curious how it does with that many leg joints to sort out!

Love it…This stuff is the bomb…Joseph, lets keep this up…!!! Great Work…what fun!

Thanks, I got my crab to back up. Now to get Hailuo to get it to walk forward…

Got those crab legs working now!

Fantastic…so darn cool…
