Pen Background in unselected Viewports/Layouts

Hi all, I’m hoping this isn’t a question that’s been answered a thousand times, I did try to search, I promise.

We’ve recently bumped up to R7 after a long time in R5 and it’s been a mostly smooth transition. One notable difference that’s throwing me off is the way R7 handles displaying viewports in layouts when they’re set to display modes with background images (Pen/Artistic).

In R5, a viewport set to pen view would display the same as any other viewport when you were not working within it, transparent and showing the layout’s page color behind it. Now in R7, it displays the viewport’s extents with a lighter color and an even lighter color when two viewports overlap.

Here’s the view in R5

The same in R7

I’m hoping there’s a simple setting that I’ve missed that turns this feature off, otherwise I suppose I’ll just have to get used to it (who would want that)

Hi Chris - can you post or send to tech@mcneel.com an example V5 file that looks wrong in V7? Please include a link back to this topic in your comments to tech.

-Pascal

Pascal, thanks I’ve sent an email along.

Posting the file here as well: HHOF 1_v5.3dm (15.6 MB)

Hi Chris - just fyi, files posted here are public - not sure if that matters here - in any case what I see here is this - top = detail is active, bottom, details is inactive…

I think that is what you expect to see, correct? Can you please run the SystemInfo command in Rhino and copy/paste the results here.

Oops - that was Windows - I see the problem on mac.
RH-63140 Display: Background of inactive details

-Pascal

Pascal, thanks for the heads up, I was aware so I tried to snip out any particularly sensitive info just wanted to pull an old file that would replicate the issue and was in a rush.

Your screenshots are what I’d expect to see but as you said, it seems to be a mac specific behavior. One odd thing is that the viewports seem to be in wireframe, when the file was saved with those set to Pen…
