Sorry to say, but the 3dFace command does not feel very intuitive for newbies / SubD-novices.
3dFace should be a super intuitive and fast tool to sketch subD typologies.
maybe check some other 3d Software - I am quite sure there is space to make it better.
I taught a SubD introduction on Monday, and the participants do not use 3dFace in a fluent way…
I wish the following:
- the fromEdge Option needs some fine-tuning - especially for the first edge - see here. My wish: the “fromEdge” option should more work like an addition / optional Osnap especially for the first edge, turned on points and edges should be selectable/ valid input. Currently it more acts like a One-Shot-Single Osnap.
- tab button / smooth toggle should be available during a 3dFace session. Please.
- the InPlane Option should also give some intuitive (not geometrically valid) result on a single edge - i would suggest some average normal of the face, the initial edge belongs to.
- nested transform Feature I would love to press SubSelection (Mac: cmd+shift /Pc: ctrl + shift) and be able to select vertices and edges to gumball edit them - after deselection go on with 3dFace without recalling the command. check out some Adobe Illustrator pen tool videos to see the spirit I would love to see here … draw a face - maybe edit it - draw the next…
thanks for having a look at, kind regards, -tom
