Panelling double curved surface

Hi,

I’m trying to model a brick dome (architectural designs like Eladio Dieste’s and MAP13 barcelona’s work). Therefore I need to panel a double curved surface with fixed rectangular dimensions as the the bricks have standard dimensions.
I currently have created a double curved surface and several circles which intersect the surface, from these intersecting points I’m creating rectangles (image attached below). For now I have to create every panel “by hand”.
Any help on simplifying the process or a quicker approach would be welcome.
Current progress and pictures added below.

Thanks in advance.

a lot of those bricks are cut and rotated and using variable spacing/angle.

or, Rhino or similar was probably used to create the overall shape / formwork… but the bricks likely weren’t layed via algorithm.

saying another way-- it’s impossible to build that shape using ‘bricks of fixed rectangular dimensions’.

Thanks for your reply!
The reference project I posted indeed involves some nifty handy work. My goal is to try to make an - as close as possible - estimation of the surface. As my example file illustrates there definitely are some methods out there, I just haven’t figured an effective/precise one yet:
