Orient on cplane

Hi!
Is there orient on cplane?
I mean as easy as in slicing softwares. Just one click on the product surface and the model is on the sheet, chosen surface face down..
Now I use orient 3 points and it feels maybe not the best way to do it.
Dont want to build any extra squares on cplane just for that…

Take a look at RemapCplane, this is going to be effiecient if you are using Named Cplanes or Named Views (which save the plane)

Still I think that was too slow way to do it. Even orient 3 points is a lot of faster.
Think about if you have some assembly, lets say 10 parts and you want to set them to print sheet before exporting to slicer. Takes a lot of time…

In the slicers, moving, zooming, rotating etc are very awful usually and that is why I most often try to move parts in Rhino. And also check if all the parts fits in to my print area. And I allways use “Align bottom” also.

What is great in slicers, is “Lay on Face”.

Just use command and 1 click and and the correct surface is on the sheet.

It would be great also in Rhino, just write the command and click the surfaces…
10 parts, 10 clicks. Now it takes 60 clicks when using orient 3 points…

Why don’t you use blocks…

For most parts, this would solve the alignment.

Why?

If I have designed one time assembly or downloaded some step model… Waste of time I think to mix blocks in there…

Of course if there is many same parts, then of course… but if all are different…

Years back I have had a lot of problems with blocks… Maybe Rhino 4/5. Haven’t used them since if possible to avoid. It might be a lot of better nowadays…

For organically shaped objects you can also use Kangaroo to drop the parts onto a plane…

It sounds like Kyle lost you on what is the old way and what is the new way. Using the AutoCPlane workflow lets you do that faster than using orient 3 points.

As for the amount of clicking involved in Rhino compared to a slicer; the slicer only needs to know which surface you want on the table. In Rhino you need to decide which surface will need to be on which CPlane - that will always involve an extra step.

I assume this is Rhino 8 feature?
What if you have more parts, does the other ones be on wrong cplanes after that?
I dont want to mess with custom or more cplanes. I want to move part to original (world) cplane, like in slicer.

With orient 3 points it takes 18 clicks to get these three (colored) parts to the same CPlane (world) as the assembly next of them.
In slicer it takes 3 clicks. That is a huge difference.

Should be like, pick surface, pick surface, pick surface, press 0 (or enter), and all the parts are on cplane. Totally 4 clicks vs 18 clicks…

AutoCPlane is a Rhino 8 feature. You could also use _CPlane _Surface
