Optional Rhino for Mac WIP release using a license key

Starting with the next WIP release, Rhino for Mac will require a license key to run. We have been testing this internally and have everything working to our satisfaction. For those willing, we are now making available a release that implements license keys, so that you can test this before the next release.

We would like some of our Rhino for Mac users to try this before making it mandatory in the next WIP release.

You can download this license key release here: test version no longer available. Thanks for your help.

After you enter your email address on the web page above, the download will start and you will also receive a license key by email at the email address you gave. Your license key will also be displayed on the web page.

You can install this optional Rhino for Mac release by dragging it anywhere on your computer. You can drag it to your Applications folder or to your Desktop. You do not need to overwrite your current copy of Rhino.

When you start this release, it will ask for your license key. Enter the license key and Rhino for Mac will then start normally.

This is the only time you will need to enter a license key. The license key is saved and you will not need to enter a license key each time you download a new copy of Rhino for Mac.

Please write a post in this thread if you have any problems. You can also report to us that the license key version is working correctly for you.

All seems to be fine here including after install and reboot.

Seems to be working correctly here, thanks! One thing on this version, after having installed, I did a “check for updates” anyway and nothing happened at all… Shouldn’t it at least tell me I have the latest version? Or is this because it’s a special test version for the licensing system?

Licence key works fine here, too, even with previous (14th Oct) version already up and running. Mid-2010 iMac Core i7, OS is 10.9.5 with latest security update. No problems opening/editing files so far.

(this is duplicate from “Failed to save the Rhinoceros 5 Standalone License” as unsure what thread is correct)

Hi,
First time updating Rhino5 on OSX (10.10.1) with the License manager…
Admin rights: Yes I have.
Upgrade OSX to 10.10.1 and tried reinstall rhinoceros_wip_20141124.dmg.

I am out of clues…non of this is working. Only see the Rhino bootup screen that seems scanning the “license manager” (judged by the text glimpse I get for a few seconds), followed by Error message “Rhino License manager initialization failed with error -300. Rhino will not run”

In other words: No chans or request to add any license key at all.

Also tried install with and without firewall active (yes, in desperation)

I do strongly hope for a advise how to resolve as growing heavily depending on the fantastic Rhino and am in a great hurry to move on.

Please Rhino-pro´s.
Any advice to get this version up and running. There never were any troubles with the prior WIP. Both upgrades and in operation has been working as a clock until now.

Best Reg´s
Johan DG

Hello Johan,

Can you open Finder, then press “Command+Shift+G” which will open a “Go to the folder:” window. Enter “/Applications/Rhinoceros/Contents/Resources” in the Go To window. When that folder is open scroll down to the bottom and see if there is a zooclient.dll file.

Hi,
Yes the file zooclient.dll is there. Filesize compared with your snapshot is close but not identical, yours 109K, mine 110K, in case that is relevant.

A million thanks for the quick response!

/JDG

Thanks, that helps. I’m in the process of adding some additional logging information which will hopefully help identify what is causing this. I will let you know when a new build is available.

Johan ,

The -300 error indicates a problem locating the ZooClient.dll file. This module is required by the licensing system. The first thing we need to know is if the file actually exists on your computer. Please follow the steps in my previous post and let me know if the file exists in your “/Applications/Rhinoceros/Contents/Resources” folder.

I am currently adding additional logging information to help identify what might be causing this problem, I will let you know when there is another build available.
