New Rhino Radial Menu- So Good!

Hi all Rhino users, I wanted to share a new and wonderfully crated radial menu that can be used for rhino and and any other application you like also.

It is fully customisable and accommodates application specific macros. yes you can now have a consistent radial menu across all your CAD applications.

Best of all it has a community element to it where you can upload your radial menu configuration for your selected application/s and make them available for new users to download to get them up and running fast. I have uploaded my Rhino configuration as a starting point for you all. Feel free to modify it however you like.

In the radial menu general tab you can set how you would like to get the menu to popup. I have mine set to a single click of the middle mouse button essentially replacing the native rhino popup menu but you can customise this to whatever you like.

Note I am not the developer of this application, I’m just a very impressed user. That credit goes to Alexander Kamperhaug and you can contact him from the about tab in the radial menu configuration.

below is a link to the Microsoft store where you can download the application or just search ā€œRadial Menuā€ within the Microsoft store and you will be able to find it.

It has a free and a very very very inexpressive pro version. download the free version and show your appreciation by upgrading to the pro version for the price of 2 morning coffees.

Here is a very crude screencast tutorial on how to use this application. I just quickly put it together to help anyone out.

here is a zip folder containing all the rhino icon files so you guys can make your own macros using the proper rhino icons

rhino_svgs.zip (3.5 MB)

Happy radial menuing Rhino users

That looks useful ill give it a try

I already tried the default menu and it works nicely so far.
EDIT: The program fails to open folders written in Bulgarian alphabet. Worked only once, then stopped doing it. However, it opens all folders written in Latin alphabet every time.

Since Bulgaria switched to Euro currency from 1st of January 2026, I’m unable to buy the Pro version, because the folks at ā€œM$ā€ live in the stone age and still keep my currency to Bulgarian lev.

if you personal message me i can supply you with a free license the developer has made available for you.

That would be nice to try and see if it will be working this time. I’m sending you my e-mail now. Thanks!

This looks so neat.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I installed the program and so far it works better than the initial version which I tested earlier today. Thank you!
However, I noticed that most times it will open the Windows 10 Explorer folders in the background if they are named with Bulgarian alphabet. Then they start to blink in red in the taaskbar. It opens them in a minimized size instead of fullscreen, too. It may be some bug with Windows 10 itself.
All the 4 default folders named with Latin alphabet open in the foreground (on top of all currently opened programs) and always in fullscreen.

Has anyone an idea what could be the cause of this problem?

There seems to be a general problem with transparancy in the UI…

That is likely due to outdated graphics driver.

that’s what I thought, but updating my nvidia rtx driver unfortunately didn’t solve the problem.

(and I did set the menu background to a transparent colour @CADProjects)

I downloaded the Rhino preset. There is some noticeable delay when I move the mouse point along the outer secondary buttons. At least on my PC.

I found that when the ā€œPass-through clickā€ option is activated the Radial menu program successfully opens any folder with Bulgarian alphabet on the foreground and in fullscreen. If I disable this option, all the folders named with Bulgarian alphabet open in the background and minimized.

On a side note, I figured out that the radial menu takes the focus from Rhino, so my 3d mouse also exhibits about 3-4 seconds of delay every time when I use the radial menu and then switch back to Rhino. The latter basically freezes for a moment. Worth noting is that I use a discontinued device (SpacePilot) and a more than a decade old driver, so this particular delay may be caused from my hardware and/or software.
Unfortunately, I’m spoiled to use Rhino’s pop-up menu while dynamically navigating in the viewport with my 3d mouse, so I will end up using my Rhino normally as before.

I noticed that the Radial menu automatically opens in ā€œedit modeā€ upon every start or restart of my Windows 10. Not a big deal, just reporting here and wondering if anyone else experienced that behaviour.

As for the unwanted delay while moving the mouse pointer across the buttons of the Radial menu, mentioned in my previous post, I figured out that it’s mostly caused by the ā€œCast shadowsā€ setting that activates the ambient shadows. Once it’s disabled, the delay occurs less often, though it’s still there.

I still can’t figure out how to edit the Rhino icons in the Radial menu, so I basically stopped using it entirely.

Is there any way to download this tool without using the Microsoft App Store - I have a total aversion to having a Microsoft account.

Amazing tool, thanks for sharing!

Sadly no.
The app depends on Microsoft Store for licensing, so it can’t be distributed outside the Store.

Hey Alexander, I’d like to suggest adding an option to display only text without an icon. Also, at least for me, the arrow indicating the ā€œsubmenuā€ feels quite large—it would be nice to have the option to adjust its size, perhaps with a range to make it as small as possible, or even a switch to show/hide it.

In addition, I’ve sent you an email about creating more radial menu instances per app, which I think could be a very interesting addition. Please check that out.

Other than that, this tool is very useful. Congratulations on your work so far!

Thanks for the feedback.
Let’s discuss the details on email so I know exactly what you want.

I suggest to add a button that will revert to the default Windows Explorer functionality when the Radial menu switches to a dedicared program (like Rhino). For example, when the Radial menu is in ā€œRhino modeā€, one of the buttons (the bottom one maybe?) could be used to switch to the default mode even when the focus is on Rhino. And vice versa: Once the Radial menu is in the default mode over Rhino, the lower button could be used to switch again to ā€œRhino modeā€ (or whatever other program is on focus).

Regarding automatically opening in ā€˜edit mode’, it didn’t happen here after restarting Windows.
