_Namedview crashes Rhino 7

Rhino 7 is consistently crashing when clicking on the icon for NamedView in the panels.
I thought first it could be related to Visual ARQ 2.9.0.14457 - Rhino 7, but no, I could recreate the crash without letting VA load.

Are there any tips to resolve?

Hi @kevin3,

Can you please update to Rhino 7 SR 1 ? I see your crashes with 7 SR 0 - there have been quite a few fixes since SR 0

Nope. Still broken.

I just updated to SR1 and was able to crash Rhino when checking the NamedView panel from
File Menu>Panels>NamedView

For completeness, could you please run in Rhino the command _SystemInfo and paste the resulting text here in a reply?

I’ll see if I can get this to crash on my Macbook Pro with Catalina and Rhino 7.1

edit:

I just tested with

I don’t know why I was testing on the Mac. Let me test also on Windows.

Other than that, can you try disabling all plug-ins that do not ship with Rhino, then see if it still crashes?

No crashing on Windows for me either.

I don’t have paneling tools, nor section tools enabled. Nor do I have Elefront. Tibidabo I have through Lands Design

Hi @nathanletwory
I tested without VisualARQ but Tibidabo may have still been running.
I will get back to this on Monday.

Thanks for the support.

I see our crash database finally has processed your report. I’m looking into the crash log to see where the issue is.

@kevin3 the crash appears to happen because of Tibidabo. If you load-protect it and VisualArq you should be able to switch on the NamedViews panel.

@fsalla are you aware of this?

@kevin3, I cannot reproduce this crash. Can you reproduce it? Then a .dmp file will be generated in your desktop. Please change this file’s name before closing the Rhino crash message, zip it and send it to us (visualarq@asuni.com), along with the 3dm file where this happens. That way we can figure out what happened and fix any possible errors.

@fsalla, I have sent you a message on that visualarq@asuni.com address with a link to the crash dump from @kevin3

@nathanletwory, thanks for forwarding to Francesc.

@fsalla, I will disable Tibidabo first thing Monday, test, and report.
Please let me know if you still want the .dmp file.

Shouldn’t be necessary, I already forwarded the crash report containing a .dmp.

I confirmed that _NamedView does not crash when Tibidabo & VisualARQ plug-ins are disabled.

Hi @kevin3 which VisualARQ version do you have? I think we fixed the crash you report in the current VisualARQ 2.9.1 version. Could you check if you have that one, and see if the crash still happens?

I have 2.9.0.14457.

2.9.1 was successfully checked on another workstation and no crash., But I must get back later about the original file on the original workstation to confirm.

I have Rhino 7 SR19 2022-6-14 Education edition and whenever I go to save a named view, nothing happens. I click the ‘Save As’ button on the Named Views panel and Rhino freezes. Nothing appears in the command bar and whenever I click anywhere in the window, it gives me the error tone. If I click esc, everything is fine and I can go about using Rhino, but I am unable to save a named view.

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Thank you.

This sounds like a dialog is open but either hidden behind Rhino itself or offscreen. @pascal what was the command to reset dialog positions?

If you don’t think it is off screen but behind Rhino you could try pressing the alt key shortly. I have seen cases where that can bring a hidden dialog from behind Rhino back on top.
