Missing Rhino Inside AutoCAD Toolbar

When updating to the Rhino.Inside.Autocad / Rhino.Inside.Civil3d to the latest version if the previous version is not uninstalled first then on the first launch of AutoCAD and of Civil3d the Toolbar may not be visible.

The commands e.g. “Rhino” and “Grasshopper” will work but icon buttons are not visible, to fix this issue, restart the application and the toolbar should appear, if it still does not appear, run the Rhino Command and then restart the application.

If the issue persists let us know!

Did you install the plugin using a native administrator account? I encountered this problem with RIR, where issues arose without one—even when the installation was launched via “Run as…” using such an account.

Rhino Inside AutoCAD is confined to the Users Appdata/Roaming so no elevated permissions should be required when running the application in a standard setup - but do let us know if that is not the case.

AutoCAD caches each toolbar the first time it loads. This particular current version of RiA modifies the toolbar settings to support Civil 3D, and the problem appears when the older version of RiA isn’t uninstalled first.

In that case, the old cached toolbar is left in place. When AutoCAD first loads the updated version, it uses that stale cache instead of the new settings. Because the cached toolbar points to DLLs that no longer match, AutoCAD can’t load it, so it gives up and discards the cache. On the next restart, AutoCAD builds a fresh cache from the correct settings, and everything works as expected.

So to fix, if you are experiencing this issue, either uninstall the old version of RiA before installing the new one, or simply restart AutoCAD once after the first launch to force the cache to rebuild.

My only experience with this involved installing Rhino.Inside.Revit, and it would be worth a try to run the setup using an account with administrator privileges. Regarding AutoCAD, I cannot say anything, as I do not use it—and therefore cannot test it—but perhaps this will be of help to you.
