Mesh Split Fails SOMETIMES - Help

Hello everyone!

I am trying to split a mesh that is generated in Grasshopper to get the part of the mesh that is inside a given Box.

My algorithm works with some inputs of the sliders - but not with all. I cannot understand why!

Please check the attached grasshopper file and play with sliders A and B.MeshSplitQuestion.gh (12.1 KB)

Results with A = 10 and B = 7. The split works.

Result with A = 10 and B = 6. The split fails.

Could this be a double precision problem?

I really need help with this one!

Thank you!

For me both configurations work. What did you expect to get from A=10 and B=6 , that you could not get? (P.S) I agree with you there that the mesh split some times does not work but in more complex cases. Not the one as you are working with.

Hello,

I’m using Rhino 7. Which version are you using?

Thanks!

Thanks to @mahanmotamedi1991, I installed version 6.32.20340.21001 and it works as intended.
I’ll report this as a bug.

Hi @scudelari,

I’ve logged the issue.

Thanks for reporting.

Hi @scudelari

thank you for this report! I can see that the 10-6 case is working in Rhino 7 SR3 (and likely SR2). In SR1, I can confirm that a lot fewer splits were working.

In order to use 7 SR2, you can just set the Update Frequency to “Service Release Candidate”, inside Tools -> Options… -> Update And Statistics.

Do you think you could also check there and tell me if it’s working better for this case?
Thank you!

Giulio
