I would like to thank all members at “McNeel” who relentlessly devote their time into making Rhino a better product! Despite that many Rhino users (myself included) are often frustrated that certain very important NURBS surfacing tools and functions are not improved even years after their proposals, we have to give credit for all the effort of the developers.
I also want to thank all the members of this forum who actively contribute to the community in one way or another.
The aforementioned frustration comes from the fact that various promises are made to fix or add new functionality, then 5-10 years later they still remain as “Future release” on YouTrack and typically never see the light of the day. I often read that people get discouraged, because they put a lot of effort to write some really good suggestions that are then “forgotten forever”, or they never receive a reply from the developers, or whatever other reason. This mostly happens due to the fact that a higher priority is given to other tools and functions that are not related to NURBS surfacing. But maybe this is something for another topic.
Anyway, my idea was to say “Thank you!” to everyone who is part of this established community. I have never seen a forum with so many friendly members and moderators. The very fact that we can discuss directly with the developers about suggestions, bugs, issues with settings, etc. is impressive.
No other 3D software has an official forum like this, where active people from McNeel, including developers, engage daily. While it might be a double-edged sword for them, as it provides a platform for complaints (myself included), it’s fantastic to have this open channel.
And it’s not just about bugs. With “wishes,” we can influence which tools get included in Rhino, which is pretty cool. A single post can lead to a new tool or modification in the next release.
I agree with OP, McNeel has great support and this forum is a clear testament to that.
I could not agree with you more! Thanks to @pascal, @Gijs, @Helvetosaur and many others I learned a lot, as well as have access to a bunch of useful scripts that take Rhino to another level.
By the way, it’s a smart move to have direct communications between the developers and the end users of the program, because this serves the interest of both parties. On one hand, the users could influence the addition of new tools or options to existing tools. On the other hand, the developers have an army of actual Rhino modelers who share their opinion.
Plus, the Rhino WIP is a nice way to have more beta testers and find bugs before the general release of the next version of the program.
I have noticed recently tons of new forum users. Maybe the global shift towards Rhino is happening atm. Can someone from McNeel confirm jump in sales or is this just coincidence?
I tried everything in my power up to and including handcuffing him to his desk to get him to stay… but sadly but with utmost respect, his time guarding the wall has come to an end. I keep hoping he’ll get horribly bored, miss us desperately and fail miserably at retirement, then comeback, but…he’s really kinda good at everything, and I’m sure he’ll be good at retirement too…
I agree, kudos to the Rhino team and the contributors on the forum. On several occasions I have received much needed assistance from both. I always take time to read through the forum updates where I find a wealth of knowledge on Rhino and so much more. A big thank you
