Not about bugs. Customer support and community

Hey there,
just wanted to mention a few things. I haven’t used the forum in quite some time, but had some annoying issues and had to get help here. I’ve been reading a few threads and generally I find that there is a lot more bitterness and online hate here, some really strong language that I don’t remember seeing years ago, although maybe it was there and I did not see it. But it is sad to see.

I’m also annoyed when software doesn’t work as expected and some times I type my frustration out, which is not nice. After using this product for more than 20 years, I had the fastest and most helpful customer support from McNeel and the community, compared to any other software product or products in general.

Maybe the negativity here is also a reflection of the state of the world, I don’t know. Rhino is getting more awesome every day and with it comes with some bugs, it will always be like that. I’m very thankful for the patience and support of the McNeel team and the community.

That’s all.

the main issue currently is that Rhino went through quite a big change in UI for everybody leaving not only windows users but specifically also mac users quite a bit too much out in the dark with essential things being rearranged and cancelled. adding to the usual bugs that obviously did not make it easier. so it is probably not the world reflecting in the attitude of the people much more than usual i would say and if at all then not by a lot.

it is, but in this case a lot of functional stuff from before has gone haywire either…

One of the things we appreciate about our users is their willingness to tell us the truth in a direct and (nearly always) respectful way. We’ve made some mistakes with the Rhino 8 release, and we’ve made some decisions that we didn’t communicate about very clearly. Those intermingle to make switching from Rhino 7 to 8 painful for some of our users.

We have a lot of learning to do from this release. There’s a lot of chatter going on internally about how we can learn from our mistakes and do better next time - but we’re leaving a lot of those conversations for later as we scramble just to make Rhino work better.

In a lot of forums things get personal - people attacking each other’s character or value as they try to prop up some argument they feel strongly about. Generally, even with all the frustration we’re seeing, things aren’t getting personal or unkind or hateful. Sure, people tell use we’re screwing up and sometimes use strong language - that’s OK. We can take it.

Also, we tend to hear mostly about the things that aren’t right, that need work, or that would be nice to have. We rarely hear about the things that are working, or the things that people love. So, @VIZIBLE thanks for bringing some of the positivity, too.

Welcome back to the forum!
