Mac Rhino is slower than before

Hi @dan and @marlin!

I’m having problems with the latest 5.4 WIP (5E397w) and 5.4 (5E407) - and have had for a couple of versions now. Invoking commands from buttons has slowed down. Using the buttons in the inspector sidebar has a slight delay, but using my fly out toolbars (se screen shot) and buttons now has an irritating 2 second delay. Invoking commands from aliases or the pop up toolbar is as snappy as before.

Closing the Rhino preference window is also slow (about 2…3 seconds) - as is closing Rhino (here I usually get a 4…5 second beach ball before Rhino closes).

I wonder if it has anything to do with upgrading (?) to High Sierra…? The problems might have started about the same time… I think.
If that’s the case… Is there anything you could do to make Rhino work normally again on this computer?

Philip

We’re looking into this. More to come soon.

Thanks! :+1:

Had nothing but problems since updating to High Sierra, specifically the Nvidia graphics :frowning:

I see… That’s not good. I hope the problems are fixable.

Philip

i know this isn’t entirely helpful but…

i have two Macs… both with nVidia and High Sierra.
and Rhino seems fine to me… or i’ve experienced no notable differences if compared to 10.12

(other then the thing @Phillip mentioned above with the preferences window being slow to close which i’ve also reported separately… not sure if that’s a 10.13 thing though)

there’s been known issues for some people who own Macs with Nvidia drivers, my understanding is that its an Apple problem, I had to install web bases graphics drivers, even installing High Sierra proved problematic for me as it did many others too

Well, this is what I have:

No nVidia here…

Philip

We think we’ve figured out this issue (MR-3208). (We plan to publish the fix in an upcoming 5.4.1 update). We still have a number of other bugs we are looking into before we publish that update. Thanks again for reporting this!
