As per the subject, I have a file which uses Linked blocks with Reference style layers.
If I have the layers switched off when closing and saving the file, I would assume those layers should be off when re-opening the file (just like normal layer behaviour). But they don’t. They always turn back on.
Interestingly enough the objects will remember their show/hide state on re-open. It would be great if they would also remember their layer visibility state.
Hi Andrew - I believe the layer behavior is expected as the linked file is re-read - its layer state has not been altered. The instances that are showing or hidden is presumably being kept track of by the parent file - these instances are objects in that file. I get that this is not necessarily the ideal layer behavior, but I think it is the expected behavior in the current state of things.
I agree that the sub-layers within the Ref layer should respect the on-off state of the referenced file, but the layer of the referenced file (eg: RefFile.3dm) should remember it’s state when the file was closed. Currently it’s essentially resetting itself to on every time you open a file.
Personally, I use Linked- Referenced blocks for files that I don’t use often, but refer to occasionally. They are often huge files that I don’t want choking my working file. So to have to turn these ref layers off every time I open my working file isn’t helpful.
