Well……

thats the quickest solution I’ve ever seen on here well done encephalon!

What do you want to know?

What do you want to know/ How can I help?

start by providing as much information as you possibly can?

a file and further steps that lead you to whatever you are showing on your image for instance. unless you dont want help and beating around the bush is more your thing. we all are ready to help but we are no magicians and clairvoyants just simple people.

I can send you a file. Frankly, I don’t use Rhino at all except for cutting my guitar necks with my CNC.

This is the error message I’m getting. I’ll send you a file from my computer.
Thanks,
Jim

Here is my file. Please don’t share. It is private.
Thank you,
Jim

i can not look at it currently, not on a computer now. since you have registered recently it might take a little till you can edit and delete posts. but i am afraid you still might have to share more information what you did and need.

so i had a look at your file but unfortunately i can not decipher your intentions. @Japhy seems to have understood your post maybe he can help you further.

Here is my take (not a surfacing expert & not clear on what RhinoCam requires)

  1. Run SelCrv, Delete
  2. Select Open PolySurface, Explode
  3. Delete this surface
  4. Run the Patch command
  5. Run the Units command, change Absolute Tolerance to .01
  6. Run Join command on surfaces to create a closed polysurface

Hi Japhy,
I followed the instructions and was able to delete the poly surface. I ran the patch and It did some crazy stuff. Here’s a pic. I’m trying to select this part so it created a cut file, but am having no luck. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim

if you zoom into this area-
you’ll see the edges are not joined. that means—

these two surfaces need to be repaired-

if you do so, you can get this to close up.

important note… your tolerance is completely irrational for this part, and is causing you headaches you don’t have to suffer. for somthing cnc cut out of wood at this scale you can work to .01 mm or if you want to get nutty, and overkill it, work to .001mm

you are working to .00001 mm

that is, frankly…insane for something made from wood at this size…if you walk past it with sandpaper in your hand you will change that tolerance.

adjust your tolerances to something rational in both Rhino and Rhino CAM and your models will work much better.

How do I repair it?

I adjusted the tolerances to 0.01 tried to select just the triangle for patch and it made the patch. Just can’t get this to generate a horizontal roughing cut file.

here is a video take a peek and see if this makes sense-

make sure to download the video to your machine, because it won’t stay linked for long out of my dropbox.

you may also want to review these- Lots of repair techniques discussed in the following.

Thank you. I’ll try to understand.
Jim

Thank you so much! It will take me tomorrow to figure it all out. Also, I didn’t get a file.
Jim

Kyle,
Your video makes sense, but I’m a V-Carve person and only use Rhino for the necks. I have a 4th and was using a cut file for that, but it he 4th axis wasn’t stable enough for my necks. Now I’m going to a 3 axis. If you could send the fixed file, I would really, realty appreciate it. Thank you for your hard work and patience.
