Lights and Sun Commands Causing Crashes in iRhino 3D

Hi there,

I loved the new WIP iOS app, it’s even more responsive than my M3 Max MacBook Pro at times. However “Lights” and “Sun” commands crashes the app everytime.

I also a lot on display modes with custom lighting (with various directions and colors) — and these display modes don’t recognize those either.

Currently on an M4 iPad Pro 13” with 16GB Storage, running 8.14.24284 (14.31.1) via testflight on iPadOS 18.1 (22B5054e).

Many commands are not implemented in iRhino and cause the app to crash. Logged here:
RV-1271 Lights command crash
RV-1270 Sun command crash

Can you share the display mode that’s not working in iRhino?

Attaching the .ini below! Here’s how it looks on the iPad compared to Rhino 8 on Mac:

I’m trying to understand this issue better. Where are the colors supposed to come from? Sorry I’m not an expert in Rhino display modes. But every file that I open looks gray with the display mode you provided.

Not at all, apologies for being too nondescript. Here’s a few screenshots from the same project using the same display mode:

Here’s a few screenshots from the same project, notice how the surface color changes as I rotate around the model:

This is because the display mode is set to shade all objects a single color, in this case white, as seen below. If I hadn’t created custom lighting for the scene, this model would exactly like how I’m getting those images on my iPad – as all-white shaded objects.

However, I use “Custom Lighting” settings with multiple directional lights with varying colors – which allow me to get this iridescent look that I really enjoy using. Here’s the lighting settings:

Hope this helps. I’ve used a slightly different display mode here, which only has a dark background color as opposed to earlier .ini. This one’s also attached below.

Los Angeles - Line.ini (13.5 KB)

I think the issue is that the custom lights aren’t saved in the .ini file for some reason.
This is what I see when I import Los Angeles - Line.ini in Rhino on my Mac.

Logged here as a Rhino bug:
RH-84416 Display mode custom lighting not exported

Once it’s fixed in Rhino it’ll most likely work in iRhino as well.

@tahaerdemozturk this is now fixed in the latest Appstore build.
You may need to do a fresh install of iRhino and import the .ini again
