Is there a timeline for the introduction of functions to the Mac release? I was wondering when Layouts would be introduced as I would like to be able to use Rhino for 2D drafting as well as modelling. and this is key to being able to construct a 2D drawing in 1:1 and then print out to a new scale without having to muck about with drawing titles and margins and dimensions etc.
At this time, Layouts are second in priority behind our RhinoCommon plugin SDK - which is coming together right now. I wish I could give a date or a more accurate timeline. If you’d like to check on progress of the Layouts feature, you can watch this YouTrack search query.
Many of us on the Mac side require layouts to make Rhino an effective and productive tool. Keeping a productive workflow within Mac Rhino will allow me to buy more Mac licenses. Until then I have to find other ways, namely Sketchup and Layout, to keep work within the same program. (Exporting to Illustrator or Vectorworks creates what one colleague calls “dead” drawings that kill deadlines and budgets.) Sketchup is a fine program but Rhino is that and heck of a lot more!
For presentations indeed, I notice it too, when I want to make a professional looking preview for a client, for example a conceptual building layout floorplan, it is adding a lot of extra work now because I can’t use Layouts on the mac yet.
Lets just hope the 5.2 update comes together soon we can’t rush things I guess if we want improvement.
Just want to chime in and make sure this functionality is not underestimated as being essential for architects.
I have been following the topic and did not think to confirm the interest in layouts but since seven+ months has past I thought I would.
Any update or do I need to break out the PC
idk, i wouldn’t be surprised if we see some of the layout features available in the next WIP… if not then, it does seem Layout will be the next sizable feature that we’ll see in rhino for mac.
It should be very soon. We have a couple more bugs to fix (related to the Layout feature) that we would like to fix before we publish an update to the RhinoWIP.
