Layer info pane in status bar

Rhinoceros Help says the following:
" Layer pane - If objects are selected, the Layer pane displays the layer of the selected objects. If no objects are selected, the Layer pane displays the current layer."

This no longer works reliably. When an object is selected it sometimes tells me the layer of the selected object, but sometimes it ignores the selected object and tells me the current layer instead.

Try this simple test.
1.Open a new file, name one layer ‘Objects’ and another ‘Current’.
2. Draw 4 separate curves on ‘Objects’ layer, set ‘Current’ as active layer.
3. Click on the curves one by one, the the Layer Info pane will sometimes say ‘Objects’, sometimes it’ll ignore the selection and say ‘Current’, there doesn’t seem to be a pattern to it.
4. Add a third layer with one circle on it.
5. Selecting all the curves and the circle, Layer Info will say ‘Varies’ (as it should).
6. De-select the circle, leaving the other curves selected, Layer Info should say ‘Objects’, but it says ‘Current’ instead.

I haven’t been able to replicate this in a simple test file, but in larger files I find that with multiple objects selected, sometimes it says ‘varies’ even when the selected several objects are all on the same layer. Deselecting and re-selecting sometimes fixes it, sometimes not.

The Layer Info pane has always been useless if you have nested layers (it’s too small to display the full path/layername), now I can’t trust what it says even if I can read it.

Hi Grant - thanks, I’ll see if I can replicate this. Meantime, can you please run the SystemInfo command in Rhino and copy/paste the results here?

With the deselect part at least, I can.
