Layer color not showing the picker

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your reply.

Just tried again with ColorPicker Plugin disabled and enabled.
Tried also to hold Alt key but no change
You can find a video here.
My suspect is that “default” make actually point the command somewhere else??
We can arrange a zoom call or remote control of my PC if this can help.

Thanks for the video, it was clearer than the last one. I’m checking with a few of my colleagues here to see what else we can suggest. Out of curiosity, have you checked your Windows update history log? Are you missing any updates or did any fail? If you can run the command SystemInfo in Rhino 7 and return that text in reply that will also give us more details that could help.

If it is working in 8, then it sure sounds like there is some plug-in getting in the way. Can you look at the plug-in manager for V7 and V8 and see if there are any different plug-ins listed?

Even though the color picker is listed as “not enabled”, it looks like it is somehow still loading based on your SystemInfo report

Try this:

• Close Rhino 7
• In file explorer, go to C:\Users\luca\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\packages\7.0\ColorPicker
• Delete the ColorPicker directory
• Start Rhino 7

Ok, the next step is to try restoring your settings to their default state.

• Close Rhino 7
• In file explorer go to %appdata%\McNeel\Rhinoceros\7.0\settings. Rename those two xml files to have a different name. I would suggest changing the extension to .xml.orig
• Start Rhino 7

If this doesn’t work, you can restore your customizations by closing Rhino and renaming those two files to their previous names

Hi @luca4,

Could you also try running the command “TestSystemScreenInfo”, and pasting the output here? This might give us a clue why it is not showing up. Also, after you click the buttons to bring up the color picker, do you have to press escape to continue working with Rhino, or is Rhino still responsive to other input/clicks?

No I had not to click ESC. Rhino WAS working fine apart from the Picker not showing.

Thank you, I had this exact problem. Clicking on the layer color in the layer sidebar did nothing in V7 (evaluation version). Renaming the two xml files and restarting Rhino V7 fixed the problem. I can also share these if it is of any help.

Thanks @luca4 and @mgrugl for sending those along! On initial inspection I think I know where the problem lies.

Additionally, I think something in Rhino is silently burying these crashes which has made it difficult to find this, which I will ensure gets fixed up as well. It should allow us to find and fix problems such as these much sooner in the future.
