Issue with lines and surfaces alignment and strange geometries


I received a rhino model earlier today from a coworker in a different office. When I opened up the model there seems to be great issues and distortion in the modeling… Is this a result of sloppy modeling work by the creator or something different happening in rhino?


No, I think you’re just very far from the origin

Objects that are extremely far (millions of units) from the world origin
suffer from display and precision problems due to the polygon mesh
vertex locations being represented by a single precision number. This
affects the appearance of shading and rendering and the appearance of
polygon mesh objects.

The main solution is to move the objects closer to the origin. That isn’t always possible though. The linked page above has one type of solution.
