Issue with Import Command

Hi,
I have a DXF file which I want to import on to a new rhino document. When I try the command “import” and select the DXF file, the drawing on the imported file does not get drawn properly. Some of the objects are way off.
What might be the problem?

Thank you for your time.

Hello - we’d need the dxf file to try here - can you post it here or send to tech@mcneel.com to my (Pascal) attention? If it is very large, please zip and send to www.Rhino3d.com/upload

thanks,

-Pascal

Hi Pascal,
Thank you for the response. I have sent the DXF file to tech@mcneel.com.

Regards,
Wil

Hi Wil - thanks - so far this looks as I expect - can you please also send the 3dm file that you get ? are you Importing or Opening the file?

-Pascal

Hi Pascal,
I have sent the .3dm file as well. I am trying to import the file.

Thank you.

Hi Wil - are the incorrect objects all dimensions? By ‘off’ do you mean incorrect locations or? Here is looks like some dims are oversized and colliding - is that the problem?

-Pascal

Hi Pascal,
I have sent you 2 screenshots. Probably will give you a much clearer idea of what i meant by way off.

Regards,
Wil

Hi Wil - thanks, got it, so, can you also send the file you are importing to? If it’s big you can remove all the stuff and send the empty file… I should be able to reproduce it with that.

thanks,

-Pascal

Hi Pascal,
I have sent you the file which I am importing to.

Hi Wil - thanks - I got it - actually, I was hoping for the file before the insert/import of the dxf - there is something peculiar, to me, about the blocks in the file after the import, but is the file completely empty before the import? Or are there block definitions already in that file, even if unused, before you import? (BlockManager will tell you - make sure to show hidden blocks.)?

Here. if I delete all the stuff in your file and Import the dxf I get what you get but if I delete all the stuff in the file and Purge all the block definitions, then importing works as expected…

thanks for your patience…

-Pascal

Hi Pascal,

I used the method you have mentioned to check the file which I am trying to import to and it seems to be empty. I actually tried deleting the stuff and using the Purge command, then re-importing it again and it worked. I guess I will stick with this solution.

Thanks a-lot for the help mate.

Hi Wil - if you don’t mind sending me the file that you were importing to prior to the import, I’d still like to try to sort out what went wrong.

-Pascal

HI Pascal,

I have sent you the file which I am trying to import to.

Wil

Hi Wil - thanks… fyi, I could not repeat the problem with that file, so it’s all still a little weird.
