I’ve noticed in the past that searching on the rhino forum isn’t the most straightforward or accurate. Often, it was much easier to find results by searching in google. I’d like to set aside advanced search, which is obviously helpful, and show this simple example where I was looking for a thread I created, knowing its exact title: “More control over text please”. Typing almost the entire title “More control over text pl” yields some search results, but my thread is not among the 5 results… only by adding the letter “e”, making it “More control over text ple”, does it retrieve my thread. Using google, all it took was typing “rhino discourse more control” - but maybe google, despite using incognito mode for searching, still retains something in its cache that narrows down the results, I’m no expert on that.
Anyway, that was just a random example; in the past, I’ve used google to search for various threads by other people without knowing the exact title and somehow managed to find what I needed.
In short… is the search engine on discourse good enough, and does it even matter nowadays? The forum contains a massive amount of knowledge, and access to it should be easy and convenient if we don’t want new users relying on AI overviews…
Adding “e” finally made this search accurate, but only 2 last letters “se” are remaining to fully write the topic title
google for the comparision
