I was contemplating getting a 17 Pro Max for iRhino with a larger screen but would it still be locked into the bottom menu panel mode rather than the side panel we have with an iPad?
I find the bottom panel problematic, especially in landscape mode as the menu becomes ultra wide and blocks the screen. Also somewhat related, closing/minimizing the menu panel appears to close the Hops parameter menu, requiring me to reload the script each time I need to change a setting or layer visibility. That would also be assuaged by having a pined side panel that allows for control and model visibly at the same time.
Also by just not having the menu panel snap closed when resized could help. I can thumb it down to a reasonable size but it just closes when I let go. I’m not sure it needs so much room all the time, especially on a phone with larger screen.
We use standard iOS UI in iRhino and I’d like to keep it that way as much as possible because Apple does a good job of making sure these standard views look alright when they change everything in a new version.
In this case, we’re using NavigationSplitView. This piece of UI out of the box shows as a sidebar on ipad and as a sheet on iphone.
That’s very interesting, I wish I had a Pro Max to try it out on. I’m not remotely knowledge about SwiftUI but I did see some comments on how large iPhones in landscape potentially adapt like an iPad with NavigationSplitView.
I’ll probably need to break down and buy an iPad myself, I was just hoping to demo a proof of concept on my phone first. Maybe get my employer to buy one, haha. Not usually an Apple person.
I went down the rabbithole and ripped out the standard splitview. I think you’re gonna love the next release. I made the the side of the panel adjustable as well.
