The object on the left is created by extruding the front face of a box and scaling down the extruded face. The object on the right is created by the new inset command and then scaling down the inset face. The geometry of the trapezoids on the sides are different in the two objects.
I assume that the new inset command was created with free form geometries in mind, but it would be good to have an option to get an end result like the object on the left.
I did this same shape and process yesterday in a course an it was working perfectly.

I did contact support and the solution is first to use the inset command and then to split corners (that creates the trapezoids on the sides. Having split face as an option for the inset command would be useful.
Inset does already split the face, but it does not automatically split the corners as you would like, because that is only one of the many possibilities that one might want to do with that shape.
