Improved Move/Copy!

Object appearance while move or copy:
The current move and copy appearance while moving or copying that, I am describing as problem sometimes.
Problem is; While moving objects, the target view blocked with the yellow selected color and it is snapping wrong place and I have to go in wire-frame mode to find correct place or alternative methods to select in different place and it is one job at 3-4 time not really efficient!

The solution I believe; Selected object remain Yellow Light color, the moving object go in wire-frame and transparent like or light gray color appearance while moving or copying, until it snaps on right target. Also while moving or copying, the object should be in wire-frame or ghost shaped line thickness at most thin as possible to see thru. The original place the original object should be in remain Yellow instead of moving or copying part… It is mean wise verse.
Since I have seen in version 6.0 something came out in Advanced settings, but not exactly served on this purpose.
Kind Regards

Search the forum for JustMove I think this might help. It is a Python script that lets you move without dragging the selected items along so you can see the TO point for selection.

Hi Serkan - this is not quite as comprehensive, to say the least, as what you are asking but it may be of some use

To use the Python script use RunPythonScript, or a macro:

_-RunPythonScript "Full path to py file inside double-quotes"

-Pascal

Thanks again.

I had return back to the normal move option because vertical move is not yet properly works with script.

If I remember correctly, years ago Rhino 5 worked the opposite way (exactly as you wish) - original object is shaded while the moved/rotated/mirrored version is shown in a wireframe preview, allowing you to clearly see and snap to other objects.

@s.oezkan - see if this one handles it all a bit better-

JustMove.py (2.2 KB)

They actually need to update move and new skecth plane or vector selection too instead of vertical move selection. Forexample :
Current Situation :

  • Once Move Command activated; Sub Command choice appeared like “( Vertical=No )”. In default, X-Y direction in Perspective. 2D views already in their own view axis in default. If vertical chosen, it s only works vertical linear direction in Perspective, 2D views in depth axis. It s actually very useful, but needed to be more developed in Command .

Requirement for Move or Copy :

  • Once Move or Copy Command activated; Sub Command choice appeared like;
    Select Direction : “( X-Y, X-Z, Y-Z, X , Y, Z, Custom, )”
    For Example:
a - ) if “Custom”, Sub option could be specified like Select : (“2P, Line, Surface”) “First Point, Second Point of Direction” , “Select Line for direction”, “Select Surface Plane” Results limiting the movement of axis for copy or Move direction is toward Line, Two point direction or Plane area.
b-) if “Z” axis choice, (It is same as this version (“Vertical”) in current version.)
c-) if “Y” or " X" axis choice, It is limited to chosen direction.
d-) if “X-Y” Plane type selection, (It is default in Perspective already in current version.)
e-) if “X-Z”, or “Y-Z”, Plane type selection, movements Limited to selected plane.

Next improvement:

  • For Move or Copy Commands, as Graphical selection appeared a transparent Plane or Axis to Limiting selections just like in command choices similar to the SolidWorks.
  • For sketching in Perspective, Optional Selecting Temporary Surface plane in Graphical or Command Sub Options.
  • Orienting the Camera in Perspective view perpendicular to surface or plane command (Similar to Zoom Selected) .

Hello - see Help on the ‘Tab direction lock’ as well as Gumball - does either of those help?

… and also check the OneView command for using different construction planes on the fly in the perspective window.

it is not a solution . Just an alternative.

  • I have found nothing about direction lock. Because When I type these keyword in help, it found any word included the search textbox. Help also needed to be revert back like Windows Help!. Web based Help Search Engine is as simple as at 1998!
  • Gumball is the greatest tool . But like me Autocad origin people prefer efficiency and use command to make the job fast and precise. I prefer to use Commands.
Gumball these days not working on solids and surfaces! It`s only working on Curves.
