Huge 2D file size

Hi,

i’m working on a project and i’ve made some Make2d to get planar views, i’m talking about 925 curves.
Is it normal that it’s about 300mb? i’ve purged, copied them to a new clean file, discarded plugin info when saving and it’s still too heavy.
It’s all planar, no surfaces, polysrf nor meshes…

audit.txt (891 Bytes)

Hi Nacho -

From that audit file, there are still 126 rendering materials in that file, and those could be big.

The Audit3dmFile command will give you more details about the sizes of everything in the file.

Thanks!

i’ve reached to identify that the problem appears when i use Make2D.

I exported those crvs as dwg and then re-imported them and the file changed from 500mb to 5mb…

No idea…

Hey there, I have a similar problem.
My exported dwg file is 20mb big and I dont know why. Its all planar, so just curves and some hatches. The thing is, there are 145030 curves and I cant figure out why there are so many.

My problem now is that if i connect this file with another its just too huge…
Hope someone can help.

Sounds like maybe blocks or hatches or both got exploded into individual elements…

Thanks for your fast response!

For explanation, i had 3d models (some groups, some blocks) and used the make2d command on it, so isnt it common that there are seperate curves then? If not, how can i connect these curves or rather how can I minimize the size of the file? Is there any way to compromise it?
Thanks!

Hi Maren -

Are the 145030 curves the result of importing a dwg file or the output of the Make2D command? It’s difficult to say from an image… Is what you show there the entire scene or part of it? Are the curves that look like hatch actual hatches or curves? It’s always best to post a 3dm file.

20 MB is very little, but having lots of curves can considerably slow down display. If the geometry can’t be optimized, you’d have to organize things on layers and turn off the layers that you don’t need for specific parts of the work that you need to do in this file.

Hi Wim, thanks fpr your response!

The 145030 curves are the output of the make2d command!
The hatches are actual hatches not curves but i can post the 3dm file, but its about 70mb, where can i upload it?

Hi Maren -

You can upload the file from this page - https://www.rhino3d.com/upload
Please copy a link to this thread in the comments field.

Hi Wim
Thanks for your help, I think i solved the Problem!
There were just too many small hidden lines which were not nescessary at all. But thanks:)
