I’m generating families from complex, curved geometry in Rhino (such as custom cladding elements), and I need to assign them to a Revit category that is acceptable for BIM submission standards.
Generic models and adaptive components are not permitted, so we have been using the Metric Curtain Wall Panel family template to classify these elements as curtain panels.
However, this approach is limiting because curtain panel families are host- and grid-dependent, which prevents us from placing multiple instances of the same type with different orientations across various locations.
We are also unable to use casework, and other component categories do not appropriately represent cladding elements.
Given these constraints, is there:
-
A more suitable Revit category that allows free placement while still aligning with BIM submission requirements for façade/cladding elements?
-
Or a viable workflow using curtain panels that would allow multiple instances of the same type to be oriented differently across the model?
