Gumball axis rotation for Planar curve

Hi,
Usually when I have an object if I rotate the object, the Gumball rotates with it provided the Gumball is set to the Object. Why is this not the case when I have a group of planar curves? Or more exactly why is the gumball reset when I reselect the group?

I have a group of 3 Planar curve selected. The view is an end view of the curves. I rotate the group 2 degree, the gumball initially rotates with it. If I deselect the group then reselect, the gumball is no longer rotated. It resets back to the World orientation??? Why??

The gumball isn’t smart enough currently to see that the three objects are coplanar and align to the common plane in object mode. It’s instead aligning to the bounding box of the three objects together. There’s an open bug about that here.
