Geometry suddenly becomes invisible, yet still selectable

This seems to happen when shifting from detail views to model views.

It looks like you’re in a Shaded display.
Is that a default Shaded or have you tweaked it?

Does the missing geometry display in a default Wireframe display?

Assuming you have a hybrid system, what is the date of the driver your your embedded Intel GPU?

The issue is unpredictable.
I’ll check on next occurence.

My system is not hybrid . I have a GTX 1070, it caters for any graphic need.

I doubt this is a driver issue JB. @osuire do you know if this just started in SR11? Do you have a model that we can repeat the issue with? I doubt it since you mention it is unpredictable, but I have to ask.

The other day, as I was doing lots of detail view fiddling, it happened every 10 minutes, and the only way to bring things back to normal was to close and open Rhino again, well… just like my issue with the blank menu panels.
Maybe I should reinstall Windows as you suggested… and quit CAD altogether.

I have to admit I have more and more trouble trying to help when I know that comments like this are going to be thrown at me. I’m only trying to figure out what is causing the problem so we can diagnose and fix the bug.

I have more and more trouble working knowing that wacky glitches are going to rain on me.
What can I say ? I’m not making them up !
I’m not even reporting all of them.

Just for recap, we have multiple people in the office suddenly unable to edit text, user texts, dots, …
Maybe we should ALL re-install Windows, or throw our brand new Dells, I don’t know.
I don’t want to hurt your feelings, I just want to work normally.

Or maybe there’s just no point asking an old disgruntled vinegar pissing lad like me to produce explanations, files, endless lists of system specs.
Having done that times and times again throught the years and never seeing any real improvement could be the cause of my condition.

So just put my posts on the heap and answer the nice fellows instead, or outright ban me from the “Rhino for Windows” side of the forum.

The hot, exciting stuff is Grasshopper anyways.

There ‘ya go, problem remains despite changing display style.
A good ol’ bug.

As I rotate the view, I notice an interesting flickering effect…

Please try the SR11 release candidate that was released today. There was a clipping plane issue that I fixed this week that caused similar flickering effects. Maybe this is related to what you are seeing.

Problem not fixed

FWIW, Olivier, I was able to reproduce “something like this” yesterday but that involved a scene with large distances from the origin and a specific workflow to trigger the behavior - RH-49547.

If you could supply a file and workflow, I will try to reproduce the issue you are experiencing.

Are there clipping planes in this model? There were a few clipping plane related issues that Jeff and I have been working on lately, but without a file I can only guess at what I’m seeing in the videos.

I sent the file to WIM.
There are no clipping planes in this file

I am having similar issues in V6 where hatches suddenly appear invisible and I think that I have wrongly deleted something only to find that undoing all the way back to start doesn’t bring them back, because they were not deleted in the first place. It has happened in multiple files and I think I might have found a loose link:

But first note: Everything I draw is close to origin and ALL hatches becomes invisible.

  • They have linked files that are far from origin, then moved close to origin where I need them so I can work without display glitches due to far from origin issues lately adressed by Mitch.
  • Rhino was idle in the background for a while while other software was used.

So something is wrong. I don’t understand why Rhino suddenly should choose to not draw stuff while still working apparently perfectly. (AA working, other objects are fine etc.)

Please post a file and some steps to reproduce!

Oh, you know I would if I could…
Point is this happens with different kinds of files when working and the moment it is opened it works fine for a while again. So no repeating pattern her unfortunately, only the annoying effect of it all.
I’ll keep my mind open as I have for the last 20 years and will post something the moment a reproducing scenario pops up, but in the mean time I want you to know that @osuire isn’t alone.

(By the way, the two other issues I have are Pictures becoming diagonal lines: image
And blocks with meshes showing as monocrome blocks but multicolored when editing them.
These two are also appearing after a while and resets when Rhino reopens the file (or if I restart Rhino… I don’t fully remember now, I ususally restarts Rhino as I believe it at least does no damage)

Yep, I have the diagonal line treatment too.
It’s just that I can’t keep up with all the crummy display-related stuff we are getting these days in Rhino.

Please try the SR11 release candidate that we released today. We found a repeatable case for making geometry disappear and I added a fix for this yesterday. This may be the issue that you’ve been fighting with for quite a while.
