Feature Request: Blur Filter for Texture Panel in Rhino 8

Hello Rhino Community and Developers,

I’m reaching out to suggest an enhancement to the Rhino 8 texture panel that I believe could be beneficial. When we import an image into the texture panel for creating materials, we lack an in-built feature to apply a blur filter directly within the panel. This function could be helpful, especially for softening bump maps and simulating realistic light scattering effects on textured surfaces.

A blur filter could help soften the edges of high-contrast areas in bump maps, leading to more natural lighting effects and shadow transitions on rendered materials.

I’ve attached a screenshot of the current texture panel

What do the rest of you think?

Thank you for considering this suggestion.

Best regards,
Alan

You can do that already by using the resample texture:

Grate! How to add that blur node filter to the texture. Can you add a small tutorial here?

  1. Create a material
  2. Add texture to a slot, pick Resample Texture
  3. Add image texture to the slot provided by Resample Texture

The Resample Texture contains the Blur section.

Aside from the use of the resample texture, this feature request exists as https://mcneel.myjetbrains.com/youtrack/issue/RH-78399 and I added your vote. Thanks!

I also cover the resample texture at 9:30 in this video https://youtu.be/rBmMnTmPUIY
