Hello Francesc,
How about exporting layouts to DWG files? Will it be already possible with the VA 3?
Cheers, Jaro
Hi Jaro, that’s already possible with the current public Beta. Just need to run the vaExportToDWG command.
Well, I think it doesn’t work… I have tried to export 2 layouts: one with “live” model plan, another one with some plain 2D geometry - both added to layout as details. All I could get was some entities put directly to DWG’s paper space: some text, table blocks, and some strange hatches…
Original layouts in Rhino:
And a DWG opened with Autodesk’s DWG Viewer, paper and model space:

A small update:
When I have set display mode at the layout as HIDDEN, there is some progress:
But: the DWG model is not the VA layout (it lacks page blocks, dimensions etc.), and also the DWG paper is not the VA layout (there are page blocks, dimensions, etc., but no model plan). The same effect I can get with exporting plan views…
Cheers, Jaro
Hi Jaro,
First of all, the feature to export layouts to DWG is still in progress, and we have found some issues that have been fixed in the upcoming Beta versions.
In order to export layout details to DWG, you must use the Hidden display mode inside them, otherwise they will be exported as images.
The title blocks, texts, and other annotations lying in the layout space should be properly exported. If you share a test file I’ll be able to check it out in our latest internal version.
(I’ve moved this topic in a different thread because the other one was getting too long)
without any knowledge about the feature i would guess the point of layout to dwg is basically have exactly what pdf vector would output (like in proper way) but having it in dwg.
Yes, that’s correct!
Hello Francesc,
I’ve been living quite long without this feature, so I can wait, even a year or two (but this is only my personal opinion)
I was just curious how it is working.
Cheers, Jaro
Thanks Jaro. You will just need to wait a few days, not years anymore!
