Duplicate layers of only selected objects

In the layer manager there is a method in the right-click menu to “Duplicate layer and objects”. However, this copies all the objects on that layer. I think that it would be helpful if there was an option to duplicate layers, but copy only selected objects.

It would come in handy when creating new options from parts of models, which have nested layers and objects inherit properties from these layers. I think that the only way to do it at the moment is to copy all of them and delete parts manually in the copy and the original.

Hello - for now, use the ‘Duplicate layer’, then select some objects and ‘Copy objects to layer’.

yes, but it becomes a nuisance when there are multiple nested layers

│ ├── Main Layer A
│ │ ├── SubLayer
│ │ │ ├── Sublayer2-1
│ │ │ │ ├── Type1
│ │ │ │ ├── Type2
│ │ │ │ ├── Type3
│ │ │ ├── Sublayer2-2
│ │ │ │ ├── Type1
│ │ │ │ ├── Type2
│ │ │ │ │ └── Subtype1
│ │ │ │ │ └── Subtype2

And you want duplicate the selected objects together with their layer structure. I think that it would be a handy feature

A really dumb workaround would be to copy/paste the objects into a new document, change the master layer name and then copy/paste them back into the original document.

Hi -

Not so dumb. But you don’t need to copy-paste into a new document. Just copy the objects, change the name of the master layer and then paste again.

That’s a pretty good technique, thanks. Even better it forces you to rename the original “Option-1” right off the bat (to keep it more organized)
